Welcome To Tulum: After Hours Edition
If social media was a place on earth, it would undoubtedly take the shape of Tulum — a tropical Mexican spectacle like no other. Amidst its boho-chic aesthetics, free-spirited energy, and stunning beaches, Tulum stands out for its wild parties that make you feel like you’re in a fever dream. Having partied twice under the Tulum moonlight before, I can say for sure they know how to do it right. And I can hear it calling out loud to me to come back for a third time!
However, navigating Tulum's vibrant nightlife comes with its own rhythm. Tulum is a very small city, so each night of the week, the whole city is likely partying in one spot while the other spots are just coasting by. This guide will tell you exactly where to party, when to party, and what to expect from all that Tulum has to offer after sunset.
Nightlife In Tulum’s Zona Hotelera
Tulum’s Hotel Zone, locally known as Zone Hotelera, is what mainstream touristy high-end Tulum is - where the Mexican coastline meets uber luxury with high end hotels and resorts like the world famous Azulik and Shibari. Ready to dive into the luxury-laden nights of Zona Hotelera? Let's unravel the extravagance.
Gitano

Let's kick off this list with Gitano—hands down my favourite party spot in Tulum! Gitano is renowned for its iconic old-school disco ball positioned right in the center of its open-air dance floor. If it's Friday night, Gitano is the place to be.
Papaya Playa Project

Papaya Playa Saturdays is where it's at! This spot is considered largely to be THE best party in all of Tulum with some of the world’s best DJs. Every month, they throw vibrant and unconventional Full Moon celebrations, taking place on the Saturday nearest to the full moon.
Rosanegra
🌹 Visit Rosanegra Tulum
Rosanegra is not your average dinner spot—it's a lively venue where dinner comes with a side of entertainment and performances. Initially, you might think it's just a regular dinner outing - but to your surprise you’ll find yourself dancing on your table between bites amidst fireworks!
The Rosanegra buzz slows down by 1am so if you're up for a wilder night, make sure to have another plan in place to party on.
Taboo

Taboo is one of two places on this list I’ve been to more than once! It truly is a high-quality experience, from its amazing private beach to the delicious food to the fun eclectic lively crowd!
Undoubtedly, Taboo stands out as the ideal destination for a sundowner in Tulum. I suggest arriving for an early dinner or a late lunch and staying until the sun sets. It sets the perfect tone for the night ahead before you head to your next spot.
Casa Jaguar

Interested in hitting up a jungle rave? Thursday nights at Casa Jaguar is where it’s at!
This is a unique experience that’s worth checking out if you’re into the typical Tuluminati style of electronic music. Casa Jaguar is a wonderful restaurant in it’s usual hide, however, on Thursdays the flip switches when the jungle rave take over.
Nightlife In Tulum Centro
Tulum Centro offers a more authentic Mexican experience compared to Zona Hotelera. The nightlife in Centro is not only budget-friendly but also provides a raw, authentic Mexican vibe, contrasting with the upscale and luxurious atmosphere of Zona Hotelera. While you might miss out on the bougie luxury vibes, the genuine Mexican atmosphere in Centro more than compensates for it. In my opinion, experiencing the Centro nightlife scene is a must—it's a shot at truly immersing yourself in the full Tulum scene.
Santino

Plot twist! I may have claimed Gitano was my top pick earlier, but truth be told, Santino takes the crown.
Santino rooftop is ALWAYS lit! Santino is Centro’s biggest dance spot, filled with backpackers and locals. It’s definitely way more affordable party option where you’ll be dancing to electronic music, top 40, and latin music alike.
In my two trips to Tulum, I’ve found myself dancing the night away at Santino’s three times — proof that it’s a magnetic drug!
Tulum Social Pub Crawl

The Tulum Social Crawl is one wild party you don’t want to miss! It’s a crazy night filled with lots of drinking games held across 4 different bars in Centro. It's not just a party, it's a fantastic opportunity to meet new people and make friends. You will be partying with a bunch of social strangers who, by the end of the night, are practically guaranteed to be your new pals.
Straw Hat

Straw Hat is backpacker party central and yet another spot for rooftop parties! After Santino, Straw Hat is likely the best place to dance the night away in Centro! Straw Hat is one of those kinda spots where the bartenders will be happy to take shots with you and join in on the party scene. Good vibes and good tunes, cheers!
Batey Mojito & Guarapo Bar
🍹 Visit Batey Mojito & Guarapo Bar
Not your typical trippy Tulum night out — but still a very vibey relaxed evening spot with some of the best cocktails in town. The place has a very local and artsy aesthetic with a unique centrepiece – a sugarcane machine built into a repainted vintage Volkswagen Beetle. Drop by here for a drink and for a funky live band!
